Convocation and chaos
Uni again, questionable dress codes, and no sleep
My university convocation is this Friday. The official reason is to collect our degrees and sit through the ceremony, and I’m only averagely excited about that part. The real mauj is seeing everyone from our group together. I’ve caught up with most of the group since graduation, but Yatharth is finally making an appearance. He’s been so buried in his MBA that it feels like he genuinely doesn’t miss us. I’ll probably just yell at him the second I see him. And yesterday he was blabbering in the group about missing us. Fuck off Yatharth, gaand maar lunga teri. Also Vipin, yeah, I’ll be seeing him for the first time since grad.
I still haven’t bought my clothes. The uni has mandated a white formal shirt and beige pants. Who actually decided on this zero-contrast, retarded af color combo? It makes no sense. So far, only Vaibhav has his outfit sorted out from Snitch, I guess. Lakshya, Satyam, and him went shopping the other day. I don’t know where they went, probably some mall in Delhi; I didn’t get the chance to check the group in detail. But from the pics Vaibhav sent, it looked like he bought khaki pants instead of beige ones lol :P. I have absolutely no idea when I’ll get around to buying mine. I asked Didi if I had a formal white shirt, and she said yes, but I have no idea where it would be. I know for a fact that I have a casual white shirt, but I’m not sure about a formal one. Let’s see when and how I sort this out. I don’t have much time these days.
The logistics for getting there are going to be brutal. Bhau (Shreyas) is flying in from Goa to Delhi. From there, me, Vaibhav, Satyam, Bhau, and Sudhanshu are driving straight to Chandigarh. That means I have to drive to Delhi first, pick everyone up, and push through to Chandigarh on zero sleep. It’s going to wreck me. But I’ve done 500+ kilometers in a day before also, so it’s definitely doable but just exhausting. Re: the zero sleep thing, the latest example would be the day before Holi at Rupansh’s party (for his BMW which completely ran out of coolant, just saw it in the group lol, its a different story, I will post about it someday).
At least I’ll be in the Elevate. I just crossed the 10,000+ kilometer mark on it, which feels great. Thinking about the car just reminded me that its first major service is actually tomorrow (thankfully, I already booked the appointment). I also have to keep in mind that I need to realign the wheels and rotate the tires. That isn’t part of the official service, so I’ll have to manually ask and monitor it.
But then that also reminded me that I haven’t serviced my bike since last August. I genuinely have no idea where the time is going anymore. My time management just sucks right now. And I have abused my bike so much that I can literally feel it crying in the first two gears when I rev it hard and I can literally hear the chhan chhan of it. Thanks to Bhadraj temple’s offroad trail and me pushing to Rishikesh averaging 100+ on a cruiser everytime. But yeah, I’m not abusing it much these days. Anyways, I’ll get it serviced next week. We (Sudhanshu has been here since Feb after his GATE) have gone four times so far to get it serviced. Two of those times we got distracted and just went on a ghumi ghumi, and the other two times the queue was so long that we decided to come back the next day, but failed every time lol.
Anyways, I was talking about convocation hmm. It feels very weird that my undergrad days are over. We are still not over it. I mean, I am not over it, but yeah, slowly getting there. Life has changed so much now. I miss everything about the hostel, the randomness, and the maa chudao behaviour that we had back then. The convocation will be held in the alumni hall which has been under construction since 2007 or so idk. Haha, we never thought they would actually finish it for another 10-odd years, but here we are.
We haven’t even decided where we will stay after the Gala dinner. Mohit is saying we can just come and crash at their flat, but being formal, I don’t want to spam his flat with five more people when it’s already going to be crowded with more people. Lakshya and Shaurya getting there before us. But I know we’ll crash there. Also, Bhau hurt his foot, his nail got completely detached from his toe. I convinced him to just “survive” until the Goa airport, and once he hits Delhi, we’ll manage everything. The vague idea I have for now is that if I’m too tired, we’ll sleep at Satyam’s place and leave for Chandigarh early morning right after waking up. Otherwise, we’ll just push straight through to Chandigarh from Delhi. It’s mostly highways, so I’ll really have to be cautious about not falling asleep. Vaibhav will be commanding the Android Auto so I am already prepared for some shit Insta Reels ahh music. And some Weeknd spam.
